Super Corban

Corban turned 1 on May 8.  I know this is a little late but I still wanted to share.  I had so much fun planning his birthday party.  We went with a superhero theme and I found tons of ideas on Pinterest.  I picked a few pictures to share.

Coban's superbaby outfit for his birthday.

Ready to take flight.  All of his friends and cousins wore their capes and masks.

Corban did not like the cake.

Healthy Home

(Sorry for the blog neglect lately.  Things are starting to slow down for me a little so I will have several coming very soon, including Corban's first birthday.)

We have always wanted to have a healthy home but having a baby puts extra pressure on that goal.  We want a healthy home in all areas.  We want to have a home that has a healthy spiritual life that nurtures growth in our Christian walks.  We want to have a home that is financially healthy with no debt (this is a work in progress thanks to student loans from a private university).  We want to have a home that is healthy in how we relate to each other in love.  We want to have a home that is healthy in what we eat and how we exercise and take care of our bodies.  The last one is our biggest struggle.

We started a journey to get healthy by changing our eating habits and working out.  We started last year and would go in and out of doing it correctly.  In January we started again with our healthy lifestyle but we needed an extra push to keep us going so we started the 24 day challenge.  We tried to follow it as closely as we could. I signed up to do the 24 day challenge during my busiest time of the year.  Every night I had something going.  I had several days in there that I left the house before anyone else was awake and arrived after everyone was back in bed at night.  I am also the mother of a baby.  We eat out.  We eat at church fellowships.  I had every excuse not to do the 24 day challenge.  I knew that if I could do it at this time of the year that I could keep the healthy habits up long term.  It is called a challenge for a reason.  It was not easy, but the hard work paid off.  We were very pleased with our results and it has helped up to form new habits.  We are on the road to having a healthy home.

Growing

Sorry I've been MIA for over a month.  I had one-act play and UIL competition this last month and when it was over with I just wanted to rest.

Corban is no longer just taking a few steps.  He is walking all over the place and trying to run.  He has had a few extra bumps and bruises because he wants to go, go, go.  He loves to play chase and peek-a-boo.

Holidays are always very busy and filled with activities as our house.  We always have get-togethers with family and church.   The Saturday before Easter we had a big Extravaganza with the church at the park: bounce houses, hot dogs, games, and lots of eggs.  Easter is our holiday to host Corey's family.  On Sunday we were in charge of the meal and an egg hunt at our house for the family.  Corban had a blast and loved picking up eggs and sticking them in his mouth.  He didn't care what was in them and didn't even want what was in them.

We has a great Easter and had fun celebrating with our friends and family the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Children grow so .........

I don't have to fill in the blank.  You already know the word.  I have heard that saying lots of times over the past year.

Last year at this time I was preparing for One-Act Play competition.  I was pregnant, and I had the big belly to prove it.  I couldn't hop up and down on the stage when I needed to at practice.  This year I am preparing for One-Act Play competition, and I couldn't hop up and down on the stage on Monday because I was too sore from a workout.  My how times have changed.

I dearly miss my little boy when I am away from him.  I love the time that I get with him and there are no words to describe the joy and happiness that he brings us.  We laughed before Corban came into our lives, but there is a new kind of laughter in our home now.  My little baby boy took his official first steps yesterday.  I got to see them.  He was going after a box of goodies that I received in the mail from www.pickyourplum.com.  I cheered and yelled for Corey instantly.  I was so loud that it scared him though, and flop he was back on his rear.  We are just getting used to him crawling, our house is now crawl proof, and now he is starting to walk.  I had someone tell me early on that as a parent you trade one hard place for another.  It makes so much sense.  At first the amount of sleep was hard, now the amount of chasing around (even though it is fun) is hard.  He likes to eat everything, especially leaves on the floor.  I have used our vacuum cleaner more in the last few months than I have in all 9 years of our marriage.  I look forward to how Corban will grow in the future and I cherish the season we are in now.

The day the president came to the school.

Ok Ok he wasn't the president, but he was close. Right?  That should count.
It all started in August and early September when my students noticed a change in the school cafeteria food.  They complained about being hungry and not getting enough to eat.  I was tired of hearing them complain so I printed off some of the regulations for them to read and maybe then understand why they were not getting very much food.  After digging through the piles of regulations we decided, as a class, to do something about it.  We talked with a few people around school, and it was suggested to complain to our local congressman about it.  Well just complaining was not enough for us.  The students created an entire presentation informing the congressman, and anyone that would listen, about the problem.  I sent the congressman an email inviting him to come and listen to what the students had to say and to eat lunch with us in the cafeteria.  Well, he did just that.  We even had the local newspaper, The Standard Times (San Angelo's paper), and KLST (San Angelo's newstation) there.  The students did an awesome job, Congressman Conaway was very kind and receptive, and the news' crews were wonderful with the students.  It was a great day.  I am definitely one proud teacher.  The day the president (congressman) came to school was one of the highlights of my teaching career.

Corban's First Christmas

Corey and I kept telling each other that this was our favorite Christmas so far, and it was.  Having a little one changes so much, including how we celebrate holidays.  We put a lot of thought into how we want Christmas to be for Corban and our family as he is growing up.  We talked a lot about family traditions that we wanted to start for our family.  So here are a few that we have started and some others that we know we will do in the future.

Christmas Eve presents of pajamas.

Reading from the bible about Jesus' birth.

3 gifts from us and his stocking- this year he got a book, a toy, and clothes.

We had a birthday party for Jesus.

Corban also got his first ornament to put on the Christmas tree.

We also made cookies on Christmas and took it to everyone in town that was working.  There are a few other traditions that we will start once he gets older.
* Donating old toys
* Hiding pieces of the nativity and once he finds the shephards then we will read that part of the Christmas story etc.
*Creating Advent activities for the first 25 days of December

We had fun and Corban had fun hanging out with family and getting to spend more time with me, since I was off from school.

Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas!  I know that I am a little late in the game, but I wanted to start a blog to chronicle and share Corban's growth with everyone. He is changing so fast, growin, moving, crawling, standing, cutting teeth, and smiling.

Many of you know about our little family's tradition of the Christmas card. Corey and I had been married for three years when we created our first picture card. We didn't have a child at the time so a cute little couples picture was not going to cut it for us. So we got a little creative.

We made creative photo cards in 2008 and 2010, but I couldn't find one.

And this year, we couldn't break tradition, even though we have a cute boy and we could have made a cute family photo.
